Larry Sprecekelmeier

Boot Hill, 2008. Above: This interesting photo from the 2008 event at Boot Hill in Jones, MI shows nationally known whistle restorer and collector Larry Spreckelmeier using a leverage stick to operate one of several steam whistles set up on a manifold. This event features a boiler and a suitable manifold with 160 PSI saturated steam in a great outdoor setting where participants can demon-strate their steam whistles to great advantage. A steam powered air com-pressor also supplies compressed air to a receiver so that those of us who collect air horns can also listen to our treasures too.
Right: Horn & Whistle editor-in-chief, Harry Barry stands next to a 12" chime whistle. This picture shows you how large some whistles are. Usually a whistle like this would be way up on a factory or boiler room roof and it would be hard to estimate its actual size.
