Next Issue Update: As of 6 9 09

It's ready! Really! After a long delay in publishing, H&W issue 120 is ready. I've already started mailing some of them out. Now, also, for the first time, H&W is available as an on-line "E-zine" for a reduced subscription price. Paper hasn't gone away, but for those of you who have Internet access, we're going to offer H&W subscriptions at a greatly reduced price if you will get the on-line version. On a small scale, H&W faces the same problems as many large metropolitan daily newspapers; and that is reduced renewals and new subscriptions. The way we can deal with this is to cut expenses somewhat and going on-line is the way to do exactly that. Although on-line publishing is not free as some people erroneously think, it is a lot less expensive than paper publishing and also it completely eliminates the post office fees, saving several hundred dollars right there.
It's easy to subscribe to the on-line version of Horn & Whistle. Click this link to the special subscription form for the "E-zine" version. And, the on-line issue is in two different formats. One is standard HTML web pages, with active links where necessary, and we could also include sound clips and animation as well. The other version consists of standard PDF pages which you can easily download and print yourself if you want to save either a particular article or the entire issue.
It is necessary in these times for us to cut expenses where possible, but absolutely not by reducing either content or quality of the publication. On-Line publishing will save us a lot. But for those subscribers who do not have Internet access, or who absolutely insist on a paper copy, there will be paper copies available too.

Subscription Pricing Information

USA first class and also Canadian paper subscriptions are $25.00 per year. Paper subscriptions in all other countries except USA and Canada will be $30.00 per year beginning with issue #120. All existing non-USA and CANADA subscriptions which renew on or after issue #120 will be priced at these rates. Note that USA first class and Canadian subscriptions remain at their current levels. Likewise, if you have a lifetime subscription to H&W, it of course incurs no further expense beyond your initial one time lifetime subscription payment. However, if you want to save money, get the on-line version. It will be available for just $10.00 per year.

Bulk mail is going away. It has been problematical right from the start. Every issue, I receive 3 to 10 letters or e-mails from subscribers who either never got their magazines, or received them damaged, and sometimes the bulk mailing has taken as long as 6 or 7 weeks. I am encouraging all of you who have Internet access to get the on-line version. The new subscribing form for that makes it very easy. Get H&W on-line and save a lot of money as well. And, on web pages, we can have full color wherever we want, links, forms, and sound clips and animations, so on-line publishing definitely has some important advantages.

Note: Prices above and elimination of bulk mail are effective immediately.

Changed your Address? Then let us know!

It's possible that you can miss issues if we don't have your current postal address, so please let us know if your address changes. Even if you move up to a larger PO box at the same postal facility, this constitutes an address change, as does new construction in your area  when it causes changes in your street numbering. Likewise, if you have E-mail and you switch to a different provider, keep us up to date. This is especially important if you are going to get the new on-line "E-zine" version of H&W. It is necessary for H&W to cut costs where possible. Converting as many subscriptions to on-line, and also using E-mail for communications are both ways that we can do this effectively.

Horn & Whistle Fun Pages

This began as a little diversion project and also an experiment as I continued learning about web design. But after a while, I pretty much left it alone although I did include three JavaScript powered puzzles. But recently I've started playing around with the fun pages again, now that I am learning Flash animation in more detail. Check out the latest, a Flash virtual carillon. If you like music, you'll enjoy this little interactive page in which you can play tunes from a virtual keyboard right on your screen. You'll find it HERE! And, if you like to laugh, [and who doesn't] then you need to check out our puns and jokes, and also you will enjoy the "talented cat", a new Flash presentation that seems to make everyone laugh who has seen it so far.

H&W Publisher is Back on Track!

H&W Publisher OK again. Some of you may have been aware that I had some fairly serious medical issues this last year. We never know when something can hit us and completely disrupt our lives and routines, but fortunately I am OK again after several months of diagnostic work and then a hospital stay. It is truly amazing how something as routine as a doctor visit can re-arrange your entire routine. What is also amazing is what modern medical science and procedures can accomplish and how even complex procedures can be really easy on the patient. And things can only improve as science and research continue to make progress in all areas of the medical arts.
Just prior to the medical event, I went through a seven-month layoff from my work. Talk about a double whammy! The last 12 months have been difficult, but things are looking a lot better now, I am happy to say.

Now I just have to catch up on everything that I had to put on hold while I dealt with the above crises, not the least of which is the new issue of H&W. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
